Guy Pearce added to Cast for Prometheus, Directed by Ridley Scott

Guy Pearce added to Cast for Prometheus, Directed by Ridley Scott
May 18, 2011

Currently before the cameras, Prometheus is the film that was going to be the prequel to Alien, but now isn't. Only it's still going to have elements that tie it intrinsically to the Alien franchise one way or another.
Ridley Scott is directing the movie, and we know thus far that the cast for the film includes Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace and Idris Elba.
And you can add another name to the list, too. Guy Pearce, it's been confirmed, has been added to the cast of the film. The news was revealed by The Playlist, after Pearce had been spotted on the set of the movie. As of yet, though, it's unclear just where he fits into the film.
Prometheus is due out next year. More on the movie as we get it.

Latest Details on Ridley Scott's Alien production.. Prometheus

Latest Details on Ridley Scott's Alien production.. Prometheus
The movie Prometheus is set to hit movie theatres June 8, 2012.
April 7, 2011

We haven’t heard much of anything from Ridley Scott and his Alien prequel turned ‘Prometheus’ other then  the fact that Charlize Theron , Rafe Spell, Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace had been cast. Since then the film has been pretty much a lock-and-key event, with barely a trickle of info flowing outside of the film set. Thankfully news has busted through the chest of the the studio and crawled it’s way over to the site MarketSaw. Though it has not been confirmed or denied, they have revealed how ‘Prometheus’ will fit into the ‘Alien’ universe.
We’ve been down this road before, but warned of possible spoilers, with places and events from the film being supposedly revealed. If you don’t wanna read them then skip this now.
Follow the jump and read on for Prometheus spoilers…supposedly.
How this will actually fit into the original universe before the introduction of Ripley in ‘Alien’:
“Ridley Scott’s sci-fi movie, currently going by the name Prometheus, is going to be a very large and intense story, with a scope that is epic, the final act is where the movie switches gears and shifts into Aliens territory. Pinewood houses an exact replica of the H R Giger Space Jockey command post. You may notice in the original Alien that the Space Jockey had a puncture on its considerably large chest, where the xenomorph broke out through the flesh of the creature and broke through the biomechanical armor it wears. You may also notice how big the Space Jockey is in relation to its human counter parts in the film. So imagine how big the baby must be, which is yet to grow. Then imagine quite a few of these. If you can do that, you got a pretty good grasp on the final act.”
This means we will in fact be seeing the Xenomorphs but as this is a prequel how will they be different from their previous incarnations:
“And do not be expecting the traditional look either, these are very different creatures that will keep the general architecture of the xenomorph, but will have a considerably different look, and do very perverse things.
Finally, how will this be compared to other ground breaking Sci-fi films of the past:
“However, before all of this I hear that the story is not only reminiscent of 2001, but is also trying to push the boundaries of what a modern tent pole science fiction movie could be. This is all I can share, but trust me, you seriously need to start being excited about this project, because not only is this I am assured, not nostalgia for nostalgia reasons, but a whole new spin on that old chestnut … The story is a very closely guarded secret in Hollywood, and while it is not a direct prequel “officially” it has more than just passing ties towards the Alien saga’s canon. You will have all the things that worked in the Alien canon, and very new and fresh and some controversial ideas presented, sexuality is dealt with quite directly. There may even be a robot or two. And the ship, which I am told is the current titles name, Prometheus. Highly original, both in concept and design I hear.”

So, there you have it a first look (and reveal) as to just what will be expected when Prometheus is released to theaters June 8th, 2012.
Starring Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace and directed by Ridley Scott; Prometheus takes place in 2085, approximately three decades prior to the events of the first Alien film. The films will explore the nature and origin of the unknown extraterrestrial race, who only had a brief appearance in the first Alien as the derelict spaceship’s pilot.

When’s it out?The film originally had a very tight schedule, with a US release date of March 2012. This has now wisely been moved back to June 8th 2012.

Report from the set: Ridley Scott's Prometheus, the movie - Pinewood Studios

Report from the set: Ridley Scott's Prometheus, the movie - Pinewood Studios
March 26, 2011

First report form Pinewood Studios, Prometheus News:

Prometheus, the movie, is be released: June 8, 2012.  Prometheus is currently in Production.

First report form Pinewood Studios.
A screen writing student in Canada was lucky enough to visit the Pinewood Studios in Toronto and shared his experience on the IMDB boards. Part of Prometheus is currently being filmed at the 250.000 sq ft studios, in addition to the original Pinewood Studios in London.

Although he didn't actually get to see any of the sets for himself, he did manage to talk to someone who has. And once again Prometheus is being referred to as something huge.
I met one of the guards or officials and talked to him for around twenty minutes. This is the only film being shot and its bigger than anything he's seen. Pinewood had been the locale for many major films like Resident Evil(whatever the latest version was), Incredible Hulk, Cinderrela Man, X-Men(second one) and this, he says, dwarfs them all.
He told me that there is a set piece which is 3 blocks high and one of the most "alien" things he has ever seen. The highlight was when he said they had build two massive spaceships or some futuristic vehicle which was very un-futuristic.
I was confused but realized what he meant was the spaceships would probably be very un-glossy.

Latest Prometheus News =
Actors Rafe Spall (son of Brit acting legend Timothy Spall) and Logan Marshall-Green have both recently joined the cast of Ridley Scott’s not-an-Alien-prequel, Prometheus.
Spall will be familiar to viewers from appearances in films like Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, and UK TV shows like A Room With A View and Pete Vs Life. Meanwhile Marshall-Green has appearances in films including Devil and TV show 24 to his credit.
As well as filming in the UK, to film will also spend some time at Pinewood’s Canadian studios and carry on throughout the summer.
Prometheus is directed by Ridley Scott, from a screenplay by Damon Lindelof, based on an earlier, abandoned Alien prequel script by Jon Spaihts. The film also stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris and Kate Dickie, and is due for release on June 8th 2012.

Originally 'Alien' Prequel.. now 'Prometheus', the movie, directed by Ridley Scott

Originally 'Alien' Prequel.. now 'Prometheus', the movie, directed by Ridley Scott

Movie Release Date: June 8, 2012

Original Information:
There's a movie prequel to the Alien franchise ahead of us! Director Ridley Scott, who directed the first Alien movie, is working on a story of the origins of Alien. The story would actually be split into two movies. Director Ridley Scott revealed his plan a few months ago:

“As we speak, I’ve got a pile of pages next to me; it’s like the fourth draft. It’s a work in progress, but we’re not dreaming it up anymore. We know what the story is…It’s set in 2085, about 30 years before Sigourney [Weaver's character Ellen Ripley]. It’s fundamentally about going out to find out ‘Who the hell was that Space Jockey?’ The guy who was sitting in the chair in the alien vehicle — there was a giant fellow sitting in a seat on what looked to be either a piece of technology or an astronomer’s chair … Our man [Tom Skerritt as Captain Dallas] climbs up and says “There’s been an explosion in his chest from the inside out — what was that?” I’m basically explaining who that Space Jockey — we call him the Space Jockey — I’m explaining who the space jockeys were … [The film] is about the discussion of terraforming — taking planets and planetoids and balls of earth and trying to terraform, seed them with the possibilities of future life.
Director Ridley Scott

And he recently confirmed the premise to The Independent:

"The film will be really tough, really nasty. It’s the dark side of the moon. We are talking about gods and engineers. Engineers of space. And were the aliens designed as a form of biological warfare? Or biology that would go in and clean up a planet?"
Director Ridley Scott

From what I heard the Alien prequels will be shot in 3D.

Things are currently moving forward with the upcoming Alien prequels: Ridley Scott has been meeting with Actress Gemma Arterton for a starring role.

Updated Information:
There's a change of plan for the Alien prequel. The project is repackaged as a new movie that could well develop into its own franchise. The film is now titled Prometheus. A few words from Director Ridley Scott about this change:

"While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place. The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien's DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn't be more pleased to have found the singular tale I'd been searching for, and finally return to this genre that’s so close to my heart."
Director Ridley Scott

Logan Marshall-Green, Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace are now part of the cast of Prometheus.

'Prometheus' links to Alien, Idris Elba working with Ridley Scott

'Prometheus' links to Alien, Idris Elba working with Ridley Scott
March 17, 2011

Idris Elba, star from Thor, confirms his role in Prometheus, talks about working with Director Ridley Scott, and addresses the movies links to 1978's Alien

Check out this Interview, with Digital Spy, the actor who starred in Comic Book adaptation The Losers last year, and will play Heimdall in Thor next month, confirmed that he'll will be in Prometheus.  Idris Elba also discussed working with Ridley Scott and the movies relationship with the Alien franchise.

"I really can't say too much about Prometheus, but yes, I am in it. I literally am in preparation for it now as we speak. I'm a huge Ridley Scott fan, this is my second time working with him. He's a majestic filmaker. He's like royalty. He attracts the best people to work with him. Actors as well as film crews. It's a joy to work with him. I'll be there all summer working on Prometheus out at Pinewood."

"I mean, you know, if you've read any interviews with what Ridley says, he says you can't ignore the fact he made a mastermind in 1976. A mastermind. Prometheus is in some ways connected to that, yes of course. Is it in storyline? I'm not at liberty to say. I will tell you that if you can imagine a young Ridley Scott making a film like Alien in 1975, released in 1978, and just imagine what he can do now."
Prometheus, the movie, is set to be released on June 8th, 2012.
