A few months back, I had my niece over for the night. Tell me a story she says when all curled up in bed. By this she means a good old fashioned, off the top of my head stories - no books will do. Favorites include"The Three Little Pigs" and "The Little Boy Who Cried Wolf" and "The Velveteen Rabbit".
Childhood memories came flooding back. Made some memories for them :)
Ju took a real interest in the Velveteen Rabbit. In my searching for a velveteen rabbit for Julien's Easter basket, I came upon "The Velveteen Principles".
Author Toni Raiten-D'Antonio distilled the lessons to be learned from the children's story and complied them into twelve principles that when applied, guide us to what is real within our selves.
In a stressful world that is often superficial this book offers a simple escape into an authentic self where life can blossom and wisdom can bear fruit.
The most wonderful possible outcome, is that when we ourselves become real, those around us might glean the real life from us. Our children, husbands, family and friends. If not, learning the principles will give you the tools to be your true self, leaving behind the need to be influenced by others.
There was a time when...
A little stuffed rabbit felt lonely and insecure.
A wise old horse knew that love could make a toy real.
A cozy spot in bed was enough to warm the heart.
A good book could make the world a better place.
You knew who you really were and what you really valued.
A simple truth could change everything.
It's easy to lose our way. It's easy to forget the simple joys of life. But with the help of a wise old skin horse and a sawdust-filled bunny, The Velveteen Principles will set you back on the course to Real, and remind you that Real isn't how you are made, it's something inside of you.
This book honors the person you were meant to be. It is the gift of Real. And once you are Real, things will never be the same....
A casual reading would lead anyone to conclude that Margery Williams had written a charming, kind, and sentimental story. But The Velveteen Rabbit is much more than a heartfelt tale. It is a classic parable, with the subtle power to provoke our deepest desires and inspire reflection. It reminds us of basic truths about what we all long for in our hearts. The book, The Velveteen Principles , honors the Williams classic by interpreting its message as an inspiration for life in our time.
I must tell you that this book is not a confusing maze of psycho - babble, with unnatural steps you must memorize and conform to. It's more like a gentle companion that points out the obvious wisdom in a child's classic that that probably goes unnoticed by most who are captivated by it's charming story.
