Artemis was born in the island of Delos before Apollo, her twin brother. Renamed Diana by the Romans, she formed a trio with other deities: Egeria, water nymph; Virbio, god of the woods. The shepherd Actaeon died when he saw her bathing naked with other nymphs. Artemis turned him into a deer and caused his second death while enabling his dogs to devour his body.
