Amsterdam Portuguese Synagogue

The King of Spain expelled the Jews in 1492. Many sought refuge in some areas of the Portuguese frontier with Spain. Four years later the Portuguese king took a similar decision. Some Jews left for Turkey. Many settled in the Netherlands. In Amsterdam they built an important Synagogue.


O rei de Espanha expulsou os Judeus em 1492. Muito refugiaram-se nas zonas da fronteira portuguesa com a Espanha. Quatro anos depois o rei português tomou idêntica decisão. Uns partiram para a Turquia. Muitos instalaram-se na Holanda. Em Amsterdão construíram importante Sinagoga.
