Bouquinistes de Paris (riverside second-hand booksellers)

Têm por emblema 'um lagarto a olhar uma espada': o lagarto seriam os bouquinistes à procura de sol e a espada a arma da luta para serem livreiros. Regulamentaram o exercício e local da profissão em 1649 para impedir que se instalassem na Pont Neuf à maneira medieval. O termo encontra-se definido no Dictionnaire de l'Académie Française (1789). Dispersam-se pelas duas margens do rio Sena entre os cais de Tournelle e Voltaire. Têm direito a 10 metros de parapeito do muro. O formato das caixas foi determinado pela portaria municipal de 1 de Outubro de 1993 (Jacques Chirac).

They have the emblem of a ‘lizard looking at a sword’. The lizard would represent the booksellers looking for the sun and the sword would be their fighting weapon to become booksellers. Their professional activity and its place were regulated in 1649 as a way of prevent them from setting in Pont Neuf as the Medieval fashion. The term is defined in the Dictionnaire de l'Académie Française (1789). They dispersed along both banks of the river Seine between the piers of Tournelle and Voltaire. They were entitled to 10 meters of the wall’s parapet. The format of the boxes was determined by a municipal ordinance in October 1st, 1993 (Jacques Chirac).
