The Russian painter Victor Mikhailovich Vasnetsov (1843-1926) studied at St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. He was part of Abramtsevo’s circle, having ateliers in this place as well as in Stroganov. There he was visited by Tretyakov, Repin, Polenov, Serov and by his brother Arkady. He produced architectural drawings, like the Russian pavilion of the World Fair in Paris (1898), the Great Moscow Kremlin Palace (1898), and the Cathedral of St. Vladimir in Kiev. In many paintings he based himself on Russian short stories, such as the Bogatyrs.
