The marriage of Valeria Messalina Augusta and Claudius (38 AD) (his third wife), was nothing more than a purely political act, because she is believed to have had several love affairs. Suetonius and Tacitus report that she managed to divorce Claudius to marry Caius Silius. She was accused of bigamy and was murdered. She has been regarded as a licentious woman.
